Campbell Historical Museum

The Campbell Historical Museum is located in the city of Campbell, California. The museum is housed in the former Santa Clara County Courthouse, which was built in 1894. The courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The museum’s collection includes items related to the history of Campbell and Santa Clara County. The museum also has a research library that contains materials about local history. The museum is open to the public from Tuesday through Sunday.

The city of Campbell was founded in 1885 by Benjamin Campbell. Benjamin Campbell was a businessman who owned a cannery in San Francisco. He moved his business to Santa Clara County so that he would be closer to the agricultural fields where his fruit was grown.

In 1887, the first post office in Campbell was established. The following year, the first school in Campbell opened. In 1891, construction began on the Santa Clara County Courthouse, which would later become the home of the Campbell Historical Museum.

In 1914, the first electric streetlights were installed in Campbell. In 1940, the population of Campbell was just over 1,000 people. By 1960, the population had grown to over 4,000 people.

In 1977, the Santa Clara County Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 1985, Benjamin Campbell’s grandson, Richard E. Bergstrom Jr., donated $1 million to the city of Campbell for the construction of a new library and civic center complex. The Bergstrom Center for Arts and Technology opened in 1989.
